The Arts & Social Sciences Library

One of two live projects completed for University of Bristol using the principles set out in our Design Guide.

The Arts and Social Sciences Library is one of two spaces designed using the principles set out in our Design Guide for The University of Bristol. The guide includes designs for key strategic elements designed to form an infrastructure which will support different learning spaces and requirements. These elements seek to assist with streamlining service, encourage a self service culture and create a memorable identity and sense of place. Our design concept endeavors to reinforce the University's prestigious identity by celebrating the positive aspects of the original spaces such as the beautiful oak paneling in the Medical Library while tackling problem areas in other spaces. In the ASS Library we counteracted the original dark gray 1970's concrete architecture by opening out window spaces, creating views and injecting bright colour.
